Taiwan’s forex reserves reach $317.564bn

TAIPEI: Taiwan’s foreign exchange reserves, one of the world’s largest, rose for an eighth straight month to a record high of $317.564 billion at the end of June, the central bank said on Friday.

CONTEXT:

* Taiwan’s forex reserves are one of the world’s largest, but rank behind China and Japan

* Taiwan’s forex reserves released by the central bank do not include gold

* In October 2006, the central bank said the island had $10.1 billion of gold in its reserves
